Melissa Spears graduated from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Camden, in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.  She graduated from the Widener University School of Law, Delaware, in 2003.  Ms. Spears is admitted to the New Jersey State Bar, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Bar, and the U.S. District Courts of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  Melissa is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and Gloucester County Bar Association.

Ms. Spears began her legal career with the law firm of Honig & Greenberg specializing in tax sale foreclosures and real estate.  She then was an Associate at a large creditors’ rights firm where she appeared before every Chancery Judge in the State of New Jersey and began practicing in Bankruptcy court and Landlord/Tenant court.  She also handled a significant volume of collection files and Residential Mortgage Foreclosures.

In 2009, Ms. Spears became a founding partner of the law firm of Spears & Mancini, PC where she focused on helping others with family law matters.  There Ms. Spears discovered her passion to help others by easing the tension and anxiety of divorce and other areas of family law.

Ms. Spears currently practices in the area of Family Law, especially custody, parenting time, domestic violence and divorce matters.  In addition to her Family Law practice, Ms. Spears serves as the firm’s Managing Attorney in New Jersey for all creditors’ rights matters.  While representing creditors in foreclosure proceedings, Ms. Spears has an intimate understanding of the perspective, interests, and priorities of mortgage lenders and finance companies.

Outside of work, Ms. Spears currently serves as an active member of the Parent Teacher Association for her daughter’s grade school.  In her free time, Ms. Hoffman enjoys participating in karate classes with her daughter at the Garaguso Black Belt Leadership Academy, where she anticipates earning her Black Belt during the next four years.

Ms. Spears has been actively involved in her local community, and served as Councilwoman for the Borough of Clayton for four years, including service as its President for the 2006 term.  Ms. Spears sat as Committee Chair for such departments as the Board of Health, Environmental Commission and Public Safety.  She served as Mayor of the Borough of Clayton from 2008 to 2009 becoming not only the youngest Mayor in Borough history, but its first Hispanic Mayor.  She also was a member of the Democrat Presidential Campaign Committee for Diversity for the State of New Jersey and served as Secretary for the Gloucester County Democrat Committee.
